Free CAPM Practice Questions (and How to Use Them)

Practice questions are the single most effective way to prepare for the CAPM — but only if you use them right. Most people grind questions and learn little. Here's where to find good free ones, and how to make them actually stick.

There's strong evidence behind this: being tested on material — retrieval practice — moves it into durable memory far better than re-reading does. For the CAPM, that makes practice questions your highest-leverage study tool. But a practice question is only worth as much as what you do after you answer it, and that's where most people leave the value on the table.

What makes a practice question actually useful

Where to find free CAPM practice questions

Be a little skeptical of random free "CAPM brain dumps" floating around — many are outdated (pre-2023 outline), have no explanations, or are simply wrong. A confident wrong answer is worse than no answer.

The 3-step way to use a practice question

1. Answer it honestly — no peeking. 2. Read the full explanation, especially when you got it right by luck. 3. Re-see the ones you missed on a schedule — tomorrow, then a few days later — until they're automatic. That third step is spaced repetition, and it's what turns practice into a pass.

Don't just grind — space and target

Answering 500 questions in a weekend feels productive and mostly isn't. Two habits make the difference. First, space your repetition: review a missed question right before you'd forget it, not in one exhausting block. Second, target your weak spots: track which domains and question types you keep missing and feed yourself more of those, not more of what you already know. A hundred questions aimed at your gaps beats a thousand aimed at random.

The bottom line

Free CAPM practice questions are everywhere; useful ones — with explanations, real formats, honest coverage, and a system for reviewing your misses — are rarer. Get those, answer them honestly, and let spaced repetition do the rest. That's the whole method, and it's most of what separates a pass from a retake.
